Insights Direct from our Professional

Rachel Turner, who is our INTERNATIONAL EMOTIONAL/MENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST at CCL, provides EFT TAPPING for all of our CCL members and beyond! Within this blog, the information we provide is directly from our EFT specialist 🙂

Rachel was diagnosed herself with U.C which is why she has been so helpful to many of our Crohn’s Colitis clients and can resonate with gut issues and assist!

Here is her journey:

Rachel was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2004 and has been symptom, surgery, and drug-free for the past 4 years. Rachel recovered her health and transformed her life by leaving the corporate world to study Holistic Nutrition, Functional Medicine, Health Coaching, HeartMath, and EFT. Through her own recovery, Rachel understands the impact that emotional and mental health has on both Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Rachel supports the global IBD community specializing in addressing the emotional impact that IBD causes as a vital element towards full recovery.

What is EFT TAPPING?

In short, it’s a scientifically proven stress-reduction technique that changes the body physically and psychologically.

EFT tapping involves touching meridian points on the body which shifts energy. These shifts can allow the mind and body to integrate, allowing a potential healing process to occur in the body. Not only that, but it can offer a great opportunity to release feelings, beliefs, patterns that no longer serve you and imprint new positive ones.

“Thoughts become things so if you don’t deal with your emotions it will become a physical state. It’s the stuffing down of destructive feelings that can manifest as physical systems which the scientific term for that is epigenetics.” -Rachel Turner

“Epigenetics is the study of how diet, lifestyle, mindset, and behaviors can turn genes “on” or “off” which we now know plays a major role in disease processes.”

Healing occurs when we learn to downshift our immune system into a relaxed state. We cannot heal when we are in chronic “fight or flight” mode. Most people are unaware that they spend most of their day like this. Even things like a negative internal voice, judgments of others, arguments with coworkers/family/or friends, envy, even experiences from childhood can light up our nervous system like a Christmas tree. Incorporating EFT tapping can help short circuit that stress response in your body and release it in a healthier way.

The focus of EFT is to work on releasing negative feelings and depleting emotions that hold us back and affect our lives in various ways.

Why it’s important?

Many people say: “I’ve dealt with that” (the emotional stuff) but how did you deal with “that”?

Whatever “that” is can remain trapped in your gut until you learn the tools to release it. We teach a multipronged approach to healing here at CCL with diet, supplements, exercise, lifestyle, and herbs as the foundational tools; but if the emotional and mindset piece of healing is not addressed, those strategies will only take you so far.

What it could help with

Rachel recalls reading something from Gary Craig where he mentioned something to the effect of, there isn’t anything you can’t use EFT on. You can try it on anything!

Things it can potentially help with:

  • PTSD
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Traumas
  • Fear & Phobias
  • Pain
  • Spasms
  • Ulcers
  • Fistulas
  • Fissures
  • Crohn’s & Colitis
  • Gut issues

Why we love EFT

We love EFT because it’s a self-help technique. When you work with Rachel she teaches you how to use this for life! There are no negative side effects and it’s completely safe! Many of us at CCL have used EFT in our own healing journeys which you can read about in the testimonials below!

How to do EFT

Rachel has created a video for all of our CCL blog readers! Please follow along as she shows you how to do EFT along with the tapping points written below:

Use this short session to lower your stress and relax your body and mind.

(Follow the video as a visual guide to the steps below)

  • Sit comfortably, with both feet on the floor
  • Take a slow inhale and exhale
  • Start tapping gently on the side of your hand and say: “Even though I have a lot on my mind, I love and accept myself”

Tap gently on the following points:

  • Top of head
  • Inside of eyebrow
  • Outside of eyebrow
  • Under eye
  • Under nose
  • Under lip
  • Collarbone point
  • Under arm
  • Across wrist

Take a slow, deep, inhale and exhale

Repeat tapping on each point starting with the top of the head and feel what emotion is coming up for you at this moment, it may be worry, fear, anger or maybe you just feel tired. Whatever you feel, allow it to bubble up and release as you tap. Let this self-care session reset your emotions for the day.

While you have been tapping along with this short session you have made beneficial physiological and psychological changes to your body.

Thank you for joining me, be sure to get in touch with any questions you may have.

How often should I do EFT:

This is a beautiful technique you can do yourself! You might even just need to do it a minute or 2-depending on what’s going on at the moment. It could make a difference in such a short period of time.

People can use EFT on a bathroom break just by tapping for a few minutes in peace. It can be done in short little sessions like this when emotions come up throughout the day or you can sit and do longer sessions if needed.

Consistency is key. For example, you can’t take a supplement for one week or try it once and expect results. Similarly to tapping, having a consistent regimen is where the shifts are more powerful.

How Rachel works

Rachel works fluidly, meaning that whatever is coming up for you at that moment she can help you address and move through. She equips you with the tools to continue growing your practice over time.

Whatever goals you have she can work with those! And ultimately in session what you will be doing with Rachel is bringing up a problem on purpose to release it by tapping points on the body.

She can work with you on whatever goals you have for yourself! You can go as deep as you feel comfortable or as light as you’d like. The goal in essence is to bring up problems or emotions on purpose to release by way of tapping points on your body.

She is so kind and creates a safe space so no need to feel afraid!

Rachel recommends starting with a package of 6. Six sessions offer accountability, success & progress.

EFT and the Gut connection

Through tapping, we can down-regulate the stress response in the brain, so we shift the body to the rest and digest (parasympathetic) or relaxed state. The messaging in the gut changes and the cortisol lowers the stress hormone level and improves blood flow, calms heart rate, and other chemical reactions that occur instantaneously which affects all of the body. Which can in turn help the gut and allow space for it to heal up the chronic ailments of IBD.

It can also help with a lot of fears that occur surrounding IBD. Some common fears for IBD are food fear, social anxiety, travel, fear of the future, fear of doctors, hospitals, clinics, fear of procedures, even a fear of a future flare.

These fears are all things the mind is trying to do to protect the body from. So we need to bring it back to safety. Thoughts such as the following thought pattern are all thoughts that are trying to protect the body: “Let’s keep worrying about bathrooms, travel, and protect ourselves from danger.” Sound familiar?

This all comes back to our belief system. So when you work with Rachel and the above thought and belief patterns; step 1 will be to work on letting go of fears and step 2 will be changing your belief systems.

Common fears, Beliefs & patterns with IBD:

  • Never believe you’re well because of the trauma or symptoms. This is a belief that could even have stemmed from something a doctor said to you years ago, such as “you’ll never heal”.
  • Not letting go of the disease emotionally even if physically it has been let go of

CCL community Reviews of working with Rachel

Testimonial 1

“I stumbled upon Rachel Turner on a Spotify podcast, where I’ve listened to her successful journey with Ulcerative Colitis. At the time, I was going through my worst UC flare in 10 years since diagnosis. Medication has stopped working and anything I ate was making me more sick. After listening to Rachel’s UC journey and how EFT tremendously helped her heal, I reached out to her to book EFT sessions and decided to give it a try. I didn’t have anything to lose and I was desperate to get any relief possible. As the sessions went on, I became truly amazed at how quickly my body was responding to tapping in a positive healing way. As an example, a couple of EFT rounds always brought any bloating I am experiencing to nearly zero. Not only that, EFT has helped me change the narrative many of us IBD patients have rehearsed over the years in our head to a positive, empowering belief that healing is possible and we have more control to turn the diagnosis into a catalyst for growth and success. I am currently almost symptom-free and have eliminated medication use completely. I would like to thank Rachel once again for this life-changing experience, I couldn’t have come this far without it!”

“I have been using EFT with Rachel Turner for about 5 months now, and for me, it has been probably one of the most impactful practices in my journey to healing my ulcerative colitis. In my personal experience, stress, negative self-talk, and high anxiety are at the root of my IBD symptoms and EFT has offered me a daily practice in which I can manage my emotions, change my perspective, and put my mind and body in a more relaxed state. In addition to this, EFT has helped me get to the root of a lot of my fears and anxieties related to my IBD, helping me better understand my own emotions around the disease. EFT is a simple practice that can be done anytime and anywhere, which is why I think it’s so impactful. I use it first thing in the morning, to help get my mind right for the day, as well as right before bed to calm my mind and body. Anytime I’m feeling overwhelmed, I quickly resort to EFT to help break out of negative thought patterns. It only takes a few minutes but it goes a long way! Rachel has been an excellent teacher – kind, understanding, relatable and patient. Working with someone who has dealt with IBD and understands the difficult emotions that come with it, has only made the process more effective. It’s been incredibly helpful to talk to someone who has gone through similar challenges and can therefore offer the right techniques to help deal with those emotional challenges. If you feel overwhelmed about your disease or are struggling with high stress and anxiety in general, I highly recommend giving EFT a shot and adding it to your toolbox.”

“I started working with Dane from CCL in June 2020. He recommended I try some EFT sessions with Rachel. In September 2021, I contacted Rachel and started EFT, and it’s helped me tremendously! There were things that came up from my past that I had forgotten about that were weighing me down all these years. Tapping is a great outlet to release tension and stress. Rachel is great at what she does. She is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and helpful in the way she pieces things together. For me, mental health has been the hardest part of this journey, and I’ve noticed the more my mental health improves the more my physical health improves. I continue EFT sessions every week and I highly recommend it!”
