Glutathione is essential to be healthy! Did you know that glutathione not only can assist with the gut microflora balance but also help with MANY chronic disorders? Learn all of glutathione’s benefits! Let us at Crohn’s & Colitis Lifestyle share all we know with you glutathione-how you should take it and which one we recommend.

You can use glutathione to improve gut health-Learn how from the gut experts!

What is glutathione? In this post, we will go over what it is, why it’s important and how you should take it for the best benefits!

What is Glutathione?

If you are familiar with amino acids you would have heard about glutathione. Glutathione is a substance made in the body made from amino acids to act as an antioxidant in the body, and it is present in every cell we have.

As an antioxidant, it can fight free radicals (which are any internal or external cells/things that could cause harm to the body.) Things such as pathogens for example in the gut could in reality be considered something like a free radical, in which glutathione helps to combat, thus leading to a healthier gut. So you can slowly get a glimpse as to why this substance can be critical for the body and help with our guts.

Why is Glutathione Important?

A good level of Glutathione in the body is linked to people who are healthy and have stronger immune systems, which allows them to combat the free radicals or pathogens in the gut more easily leading to better overall health. Lower levels of glutathione can occur with age or in people in weakened immune systems as this article clearly shows.

If someone has low or depleted levels of glutathione oxidative stress could be a possibility that can put serious stress on the body and can lead to disease.

This antioxidant stimulates immune function and can boost other antioxidants in the body!

Glutathione can stimulate your natural Killer (NK) cells, which are the cells that are the major ones involved in your immune system to help keep you safe and healthy. These are the cells that help with fighting infections or other things when they happen to the body. You can read more on this from this resource.

Since glutathione is so powerful in the body to help with immune function, detoxing (we will share more later) and as an antioxidant to the body to rid ourselves of those free radicals we can see how this multifaceted substance is a master at what it does!

When we get sick all too often we run and grab antibiotics. But many people don’t know about glutathione and how this antioxidant can assist in fighting any negative cells that are involved with infection or disease.

So why not have this little guy on hand and use it as needed to keep your glutathione levels balanced to help in healing and health?

How does Glutathione affect the gut?

Since Glutathione is involved in immune health, this directly affects our GI tracts. When our immunity is high, with the assistance of glutathione it can ward off any pathogens (bacterial/fungal/viral overgrowths) that are stuck to our guts and are problematic. This is where the detox magic of glutathione comes into play! It is amazing at detoxing pathogens or toxins out of our bodies similar to an infrared sauna or other forms of detox methods

There is also a link between glutathione and leaky gut by assisting cells (immune cells and others) to keep the intestinal walls strong and help repair any damage that is there which would cause the leaks in leaky gut. According to Natasha Trenev, the founder of Natren Probiotics 70 – 80% of your immune cells live in your gut! Read more on that here!

With that in mind, glutathione can help keep our walls strong, detox out pathogens that help to balance the microbiome, and is fantastic at tissue repair! Glutathione has often been used for injuries to assist in tissue repair-so again when it comes to our guts and the damage that is there, glutathione can really help with that too!

Benefits of Glutathione:

  • A powerful antioxidant
  • Detoxification
  • Helps the immune system function
  • Helps with gut permeability
  • Great at injury/tissue repair
  • Can lower inflammtion

How you can use glutathione!

Different forms of glutathione can be used, in delivery methods. Glutathione can be injected, inhaled via nebulizer, or taken orally. For lung issues, the amazing Jini Patel Thompson has used nebulized glutathione for herself and her family when she got sick.

We recommend implementing glutathione as soon as possible into the patient’s protocol since it is a powerful antioxidant and “healer” so to speak especially with Crohn’s & Colitis patients who have gut damage! So how do we as the gut experts recommend using it? See all our tips below 🙂

HERE’S HOW WE RECOMMEND USING GLUTATHIONE FOR GUT DISORDERS:

We only recommend this form of glutathione to our patients. Taking it orally ensures it targets the GI tract which is great for any gut disorders.

*This product may be pricey but we have found it to be the MOST effective.

This liposomal form comes with vitamin C, which is incredible not only for immune assistance but vitamin C helps the body to better process glutathione! Vitamin C and glutathione work together and vitamin C can help with increasing glutathione, so the two taken together can boost it even more!

Taking this in a liposomal form can help target it directly to the bloodstream very quickly providing relief and detoxification.

We recommend taking ½ teaspoon-1 Teaspoon of this in the mouth (up to a few times a day) to help support and detox the body. You can get the right liposomal glutathione here with no negative additives. Start with just one pump to make sure your body tolerates it. If you get any glutathione side effects or HERX symptoms discontinue glutathione for a few days and then reintroduce it at a smaller dose.
